Our family has been raising high quality Red Angus cattle for over 60 years. From the oldest member of the family (87-years-old) to the youngest (6-months-old), passion for our livelihood runs deep in our four generation operation. From sun up to sun down, we work alongside each other every day to care and nurture not only our cattle, but also the great land we call home. This is our greatest responsibility and one we do not take lightly. We are fortunate to live in one of the prettiest places on earth (or at least we think so!) and must ensure it remains in its pristine condition in order to be passed on and enjoyed by the next generation.
We are a large family and appreciate the chaos that brings with it. Family gatherings are loud and obnoxious, but one thing you can always count on is great beef! We take pride in who we are and what we do, but more importantly, we love doing it together and with integrity. We look forward to getting to know you not only as a customer but also as a friend.
Welcome to the family!
At home in the Flint Hills...
Our ranch is located in the heart of the Kansas Flint Hills on the last remnants of the Tallgrass Prairie. The Tallgrass Prairie once covered millions of acres across much of the western corn belt, but was pushed to the Kansas Flint Hills by the farmers plow. Here the rough topography and shallow limestone ridges stopped the plow and provided opportunity for hardy grasses to thrive on the mineral laden soil.
This special grass and mineral combination is part of what makes Mushrush Family Meats so special. Our management of the Tallgrass Prairie is the definition of sustainability. The prairie is maintained in its pristine, natural environment. We do not till the soil, plant, or use fertilizers. Weed and brush control is by the use of fire, as established first by nature and adopted by the first Native American inhabitants of this area. Our cattle obtain the majority of their growth in this natural ecosystem, which is why we are proud to proclaim our major ingredients are sunlight, rain water, and grass.
